My work is an observation of the human emotions that are born from a lack of self; not knowing who you are and looking externally for how to be. Emotions that are self-conscious and self-evaluative can give us insight into the internal resistance that holds us back; such as guilt, shame, or jealousy brought on by social norms, stigmas, and prejudice. With a sense of self, each person can establish their truths and navigate life with intention.
I use painting and printmaking techniques to illustrate narratives through vibrant colors and textures, and lovable characters. My work juxtaposes whimsical worlds and the “darker” topics of mental health. The intimate and moody spaces I create seek to provide comfort to the viewer and destigmatize mental health struggles.
